After scooping the Gold Medal at the national WorldSkills Final last year, Swindon College is on track to do it again after student Elise Street was awarded first prize at The Media Make-Up WorldSkills UK South West Heat on Wednesday 25 May which took place at the City of Bristol College.
Elise who is on the BTEC National Diploma in Production Arts (Media Make-Up) course at Swindon College was entered into the WorldSkills UK Heat (South West) along with two other students Chanel Murray and Jess Reid by their tutors Jennifer Dytham and Ellie Baskerville.
For the competition Elise had to produce a piece of art from memory on a model’s entire body and her theme was “Magical Wildlife”.
Media Make-Up lecturer Ellie Baskerville said: “All three students were absolutely fantastic, organised, professional and really did us proud and Elise won first place in the heat which is great!”.
The judges praised Elise’s work saying her skills base was very strong for a student of her age. The students were marked on set up, personal appearance, application techniques, dramatic impact, overall effect and the finished results.
Elise has won the regional South West Heat and been chosen for the final competition which will take place at Cambridge Regional College, Science Park Campus on Saturday 25th June 2011. Elise will be competing against the top 10 in her category for the top three winning titles and be awarded a prize.
This year 4 media make-up students from Swindon College have been accepted on to further study at the prestigious London College of Fashion where competition for limited places is high.
