Life long Swindon Town fan Marc Harris from Haydon Wick and three friends are planning an epic road trip to visit all 92 clubs in the football league in 92 hours to raise money and awareness for Helen & Douglas House children’s hospice.
Their trip starts on 9 April, the morning after the Leicester City v Brighton & Hove Albion game, and aims to end in time to watch the Plymouth Argyle v Oxford United on 12 April. Marc estimates the total distance travelled will be about 2,500 miles.
Although Marc, 43, says all four of the fans support England, they go their own way when it comes to the club interests. Along for the ride are Cris Bowden, 34, who supports Oxford United, Andy Price, 47, a Leicester City fan, and Steve Wells, 54, who backs Plymouth Argyle.
They have the support of Enterprise car hire who are supplying the vehicle for the journey.
Mark said: "We’ve been obtaining memorabilia from the 92 clubs to enable us to also have an online auction in April, with all the money raised going straight to Helen & Douglas House. Our aim from the trip sponsorship and the auction is to raise £5,000.
"We chose to help Helen & Douglas House as we are friends with four year old Ellie (pictured) and her parents. She was born with congenital toxoplasmosis, and has been visiting the hospice for three years. At just two weeks old, Ellie nearly died in intensive care, and at the same time her parents learned she was severely disabled.
Helen & Douglas House use their time and expertise to care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and to support their families. The two hospice houses offer specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling and practical support for the whole family. The services and facilities are offered free of charge families, however it costs £5 million every year to keep the hospice open.
