Four offenders sentenced following violent and unprovoked incident at Haydon Wick
The incident took place on 3February at a flat in Speedwell Close, Haydon Wick.
The men broke into the flat wearing balaclavas and brandishing a hammer and a baseball bat and caused a large amount of criminal damage before fleeing the scene in a stolen car.
Two females were inside the flat during the incident.
Last week, the men involved were sentenced at Swindon Crown Court.
All four pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary. They are:
– Craig Knowles, 23, of Frobisher Drive, Swindon, sentenced to 6 years 9 months imprisonment.
– Leon Morgan, 20, of Cricklade Road, Swindon, sentenced to 6 years 9 months imprisonment in a young offenders institute.
– Matthew Alfonso, 24, of Whitbourne Avenue, Swindon, was sentenced to 5 years 4 months imprisonment.
– A 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given a community order and was given an electronically monitored curfew of 7pm – 7am for three months.
PC Phil Hines from Wiltshire Police said: “This was a violent and unprovoked incident which has understandably left the two female victims very shaken up.
“These offenders smashed their way into this premises and then used a number of weapons to cause extensive criminal damage to the flat and its contents.
“Police officers acted swiftly and these men were arrested in the stolen car just moments after the crime had been committed. This is thanks to the vigilant and immediate response by members of the public in reporting this suspicious activity.
"The police would like to encourage the prompt reporting of suspicious activity witnessed by the public as this is vital in the fight against crime.
“I hope this sentence acts as a deterrent to others. Wiltshire Police takes crimes of this nature very seriously and will robustly investigate all incidents.”
