Savernake Street Social Hall in Old Town are opening The Free Shop on Saturday 4 May, 11am to 2pm.
Organiser Caroline Davies-Khan explained the thinking behind the project. “The principle is that, while no money is exchanged, goods can be donated and acquired in the name of reusing, reducing and recycling and in the spirit of community.
“In this era of austerity, the Free Shop is a way to help out our neighbours and build a strong, caring and sustainable community. It’s not about charity, but solidarity in the community coming together to answer our own needs.” Spring clean donations of toys, books, bric-a-brac, clothes, DVDs and CDs and small furniture will be welcome so long as they are in good condition. they can only be accepted and taken on the day of The Free Shop.
Caroline added: “There is no obligation to donate if you take goods and, likewise, you do not have to take anything if you donate.”
The Free Shop will take place on the first Saturday of each month. See more at www.Facebook.com/Savernake Street Social Hall
