There’s a rare chance to visit Swindon Lagoons with Wiltshire Wildlife volunteer wardens Simon Wicks and Gordon Shaw from 10am on Saturdays 31 May, 28 June, 26 July, 9 August and 20 September.
This hidden gem, close to Thames Water’s works at Barnfield, contains some 20 lagoons between Shaw Forest Park and the River Ray and is not open to the public for safety reasons.
A large variety of birdlife including herons, egrets and songbirds populate the area. Grass snakes, slow worms, voles and deer also live on the reserve and a tour could include sightings.
Tour groups meet at the access gate off the River Ray Parkway cycle path opposite Shaw Forest Park.
