Liz Brackenbury from Stratton St Margaret has launched Mum’s the Word for women who want to pick up a pen, or express themselves through their keyboard.
She has secured a grant from Swindon ArtsWords to run eight evening sessions, twice a month on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm, at Lower Shaw Farm.
Mother of seven Liz said, “the sessions are free and mums can drop in, or attend them all. The aim is to bring women together from all walks of life to write about their own unique experiences of motherhood and what it means to be a mum. I hope we can create a warm, supportive and nurturing environment that allows women the opportunity to share and encourage each other to put pen to paper and share the journey that encompasses all that motherhood means to each of us.
“Whether it be relationships with our own mums, our personal stories of wanting to be a mum, childbirth, realities of being a mum, fostering, step parent, or even as a surrogate, we all have a story to tell. The group provides encouragement to women who may have never written before, who may be nervous and lacking in confidence to express their thoughts on paper. Mums the Word will provide the space and time for those who need to get started, and for those with some experience with writing about their lives.”
