Rhys Evans of Swindon Town Football Club wanted to get involved with the GWR FM Christmas Appeal back in December so kindly offered to run two football-training sessions for 10-13 year olds and 14-16 year olds to raise money for the GWR FM Community Trust.
Twenty children from Swindon and Wiltshire took part in the session for 10 to 13 year olds that were sponsored by The Premier Travel Inn at Cirencester Indoor Arena on Sunday 5 March. The children were shown different soccer skills from dribbling the ball to special awareness and Rhys Evans was joined by Matt Bulman to help in the 2-touch football match that proved a hit with the children.
After the football, Rhys kindly took questions from the children that ranged from ??How many goals have you let in?? to ??How old were you when you were first scouted for a professional club??
Jake Goodwin of Stratton St Margaret said, “I really enjoyed the footy and wish that we could do this every week.”
As well as a t-shirt and GWR FM goodie bag the children will have their own personal DVD of their day and a signed photo of themselves with Rhys, the big surprise coming at the end of the buffet with Rhys presenting the children with a Swindon Town Football Club goodie bag complete with a free ticket to watch Swindon Town v Chesterfield on March 25th at The County Ground.
The session for 14 to 16 year olds takes place on Sunday 26th March and there are still some places left. If you would like your child to take part then please contact Rachel at GWR FM on 01793 663061 for full details.
