In their first Ofsted inspection since starting at the recently reopened Freshbrook Community Centre, Alpha Preschool has been declared good.
The preschool, which caters for 26 children from 2 to 5 years, was applauded for its inclusiveness and nurturing environment. The report says: “Children benefit greatly from staff members’ inclusive practice. Staff know the children well; and the caring ethos enables children to feel secure and enjoy their time there.
“Equality and diversity is promoted through the positive approach taken by staff to treat all children and their families as individuals. Books and resources support children’s culture. Children are very well behaved and the consistent management of their behaviour by staff is one of the strengths of the preschool.”
Some processes could be improved, the report added. Supervisor Lynne Jacobs was delighted with the verdict. She said, “we’re so excited to have had a good Ofsted. We’ve only been operating for nine months, and with all the hard work we’ve put in, we feel we’re giving the Freshbrook community a playgroup to be proud of. We have had great support from parents and the community. The children are happy, settled and learning well through play.”
