Peter Duncan, Jonny Clarke and George Banks head the cast of Rachel Wagstaff’s stage play, Birdsong, adapted from the novel by Sebastian Faulks, which arrives at the Wyvern Theatre in early July.
In pre-First World War France, Stephen, a young Englishman, embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle that turns their worlds upside down.
When war breaks out, Stephen must lead his men into sub-terranean battle in deep tunnels under the Somme salient.
Faced with the horror, he clings to the memory of Isabelle and the idyll of his former life.
The critically acclaimed 2013 tour was seen by more than 75,000 people, and raised over £50,000 for Help for Heroes. The charity is again being supported this year.
Birdsong will run at the Wyvern from Tuesday 1 to Saturday 5 July.
