The National Organisation of the Widowed (NOW) – formerly the National Association of Widows – provides support to men and women of all ages who have lost a life partner through bereavement.
Ann Humby, chair of the Swindon branch of NOW, said the charity is not a counselling service but an organisation run by the widowed to provide the kind of support that can only come from those who have experienced a similar loss and understand the problems. “The major benefit we can offer is friendship to people on their own and are ready to rediscover a social life.
“Our monthly meetings include speakers and quizzes and we also arrange a lunch each month, as well as theatre trips and a group holiday.”
The Swindon branch meets in the Central Community Centre, Emlyn Square on the second Monday of the month, 1.45pm to 3.45pm. For details call Ann on 01793 497081.
