It's all aboard at STEAM for February Half-Term, with plenty of activities to entertain the whole family, whatever the weather. Children can enjoy winter crafts, make a card or gift for Mothers Day and enjoy fun and games with STEAM's programme of events.
The fun kicks off with Meet the Railway Workers on Saturday 16 February, 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. Children can climb aboard the locomotives and 'have a go' at the controls as they meet real engine drivers and former GWR workers who will show them how the locos worked.
Normal admission prices apply for this event: £6.00 for adults and £4.00 for children under 16. Children under 5 go free and Swindoncard holders can get a good discount on admission prices.
The popular Smiley Cats Kidz Club, for children aged 4-11 is back specially for Half-Term, with sessions on Tuesday 19, Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 February between 9.30 am and 1.00 pm.
Smiley Cats offer a structured programme of arts and crafts and creative games as well as a supervised tour of the Museum. The theme of the week will be Winter Crafts, including a surprise for Mothers Day. Games are organised around the ages of the group. Sessions cost £11.00 (or £8.60 with a Swindoncard) and all craft materials are included, as are healthy snacks, such as fruit, provided mid-morning. All Smiley Cats staff are CRB checked and NVQ qualified. Booking is advised – contact Terry at STEAM on 01793 466637.
"There's always so much to see and enjoy at STEAM and the half-term holiday is an excellent time to visit," said Councillor Justin Tomlinson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Recreation.
"Children can experience the magic and romance of Steam and learn about Swindon's rich railway heritage while they're busy having fun – whether it be having a go on the locomotives, riding the miniature railway or taking control of the signals." (t.b.c)
