Conservative party candidate Oliver Donachie swept to victory in the Haydon Wick by-election which was caused by the death of former Conservative ward councillor and Mayor of Swindon Rex Barnett.
He increased the winning margin in the ward receiving 1,376 votes, with Labour’s Maura Clarke gaining 887.
UKIP candidate Ed Gerrard took 426 votes while Liberal Democrat Sean Davey picked up 83.
The 2,772 votes cast represents a 30.17 per cent turn out.
It means the Conservatives retain an controlling majority on the council with 29 seats compared to Labour’s 23 with the Lib Dems holding four, with one independent.
