Hazel O’Connor Breaking Glass Barefoot Tour
Having just celebrated thirty years since Dodi Fayed’s iconic movie Breaking Glass launched her into the spotlight, award-winning singer songwriter Hazel O’Connor is out on the road this spring touring the UK performing all her greatest hits together in a highly anticipated live show to coincide with the publication of her long-awaited autobiography Breaking Glass Barefoot.
Melding Hazel’s superb vocals with soaring sax from Clare Hirst (Bellestars, Communards, Bowie) and Sarah Fisher (Eurythmics) on keyboards, this powerful blend of voices and musicanship brings a sweet touch of class and energy to their vibrant performance. Her ageless songs include Eighth Day, Will You, Big Brother, Monsters in Disguise, Calls The Tune, If Only, Give Me An Inch , Blackman, Hanging Around and That’s Life, all of which seem even more relevant today.
Hazel earned her a place in the history books
Hazel O’Connor started her professional life as a dancer working in such diverse countries as Japan and the Lebanon. In 1980, she was catapulted to stardom as Kate in the film Breaking Glass for which she also wrote and performed the iconic soundtrack. She won the Variety Club of Great Britain’s 1980 Film Actress Of The Year Award and, in 1981, was nominated for BAFTA Best Newcomer and Breaking Glass was nominated for Best Film Soundtrack – earning Hazel her place in the history books as the first woman to write and perform all the songs for a film.
Her theatre work includes One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Manchester Royal Exchange), her self-penned Sing Out Sister (Riverside Studios), Night Shoot (Tricycle Theatre), Howard Goodall’s Girlfriends in London’s West End and both The Raven Beckons and Cuchulain Cycle (The Project, Dublin and Riverside Studios). More recently she starred in Gráinne and Beth, a show about Gráinne Ní Mháille, in Dundalk with four of the De Barra boys playing Queen Elizabeth I.
Her television credits include the children’s TV series, Metal Mickey, and Prospects, both for ITV and the hard-hitting drama series, Fighting Back for the BBC.
Breaking Glass released on digitally remastered DVD
In addition to the publication of Hazel’s long-awaited autobiography Breaking Glass Barefoot this unique tour also coincides with the special release of the Digitally Re-mastered Special Edition DVD of Dodi Fayed’s iconic movie, Breaking Glass.
