HIGHWORTH Town had to come from behind to secure a well-deserved 2-1 victory away at Thatcham which rocketed them up to second in the Hellenic Premier table.
After dominating the contest before the interval, but failing to score, John Fisher’s side slipped behind just after the break but turned things around as goals from Ryan King and Callum Parsosn eventually secured the win.
The victory leaves the men from the Elms just a point behind leaders Highmoor Ibis, but looked as if it wasn’t going to arrive as Brad Clark, TJ Bohane, King, and Matty Horsell all missed first-half chances.
With the Worthians on top, Thatcham’s Simeon Howell drove first and allowed Mark Hughes to send a looping header back across goal which evaded the hands of Highworth keeper Gary Stevens and gave the hosts the lead.
The somewhat surprising goal seemed to spark Highworth into life and after a good run forward from Horsell, King was able to fire home a crisp half volley to level matters.
King turned provider for the second, 15 minutes later, as his floated free kick to the back post found Ash Taylor who angled a header back across goal for Parsons to nod home.
Fisher’s men had to withstand some late pressure before taking the win, but they had already done enough.
