On Saturday 30 July 2011 Help for Heroes is holding its summer black tie ball at Swindon’s County Ground, including 3 course dinner, live music and an incredible range of auction items and raffle prizes signed by stars of rugby, football, snooker, golf, tennis, TV and music, including Johnny Wilkinson, Wayne Rooney, The Saturdays and the cast of Eastenders.
Organiser Colin Jackson, Swindon resident and British Army veteran, who also ran the London Marathon in aid of the charity this year, said "Help for Heroes is about doing our bit for men and women who have been injured in a war environment. As individuals we feel powerless to prevent war, but this means we can do something practical to help."
The speaker and auctioneer on the night will be Ben McBean (pictured), Patron of Help for Heroes, who lost his left arm and lower right leg whilst on foot patrol in Afghanistan in 2008. Just over a year later he completed the London Marathon in 6 hours and 15 minutes, despite being in agony from his prosthetic limb, and has continued to face tough challenges of physical endurance ever since, all in aid of his wounded Forces colleagues.
