Construction is moving on apace at the new schools in North Swindon, and the governors of one of the primary schools are looking for your help in naming one of them.
PS4, as it?s currently known, is the new primary school at the heart of the Haydon End community in Priory Vale. It has recently advertised in the national press for a head-teacher to be appointed in the Spring, ready to recruit staff and prepare the 240 place school for its opening next September.
The first residents of Haydon End moved into their new homes last July and the area will rapidly fill up before the new school opens.
Chair of Governors Clint Ricketts said the governors are counting on readers to help them come up with a name for the community school, “several of our governors are quite new to Swindon, and we?re keen to hear from readers who can suggest a name which is both interesting and distinctive to our area.
“The school?s being built on a green field site. It?s a very exciting project and the governors believe the name will be very important in helping to establish the character and community in this part of Priory Vale.”
He added that the governors wanted to avoid any confusion with existing schools, those with ?Haydon? or ?Oak? in the title.
The name could draw on the local history or features of North Swindon. On the other hand, the school is surrounded by streets taken from Swindon?s twin link with the City of Torun, in Poland.
Send your suggested names for PS4, with a short explanation, to The Link, 70 Basepoint, Rivermead Drive, Swindon SN5 7EX or mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
The closing date is 5 January 2006 after which the governors will meet to discuss the ideas. If they can?t make a decision, they will ask readers to vote on a shortlist in the February edition.
