Invite friends, colleagues, family, your street – to share a BIG Breakfast and raise funds for children and adults with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
EB is an excruciatingly painful skin blistering condition which can be fatal in its worst cases. DEBRA is the national charity which supports families living with EB by providing specialist healthcare, social support and ground-breaking research into treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
The DEBRA Big Breakfast campaign is taking place throughout October, culminating in the International EB Awareness Week (25 – 31 October 2011). Participating in the DEBRA Big Breakfast is simple. Decide what you will be having for breakfast and find a venue (your home? your office?), then just send out the invites. Whether you’re having cornflakes and coffee, or a full English fry-up, ask your guests to donate what they would have paid in the local café.
Chris Clarke, Head of Regional Fundraising at DEBRA said: “Above all we want this event to be fun and raise awareness of EB in the wider community whilst, of course, raising important funds. Funding could pay for essential specialist equipment which is not easily available including feeders, mattresses and bedding for newborn babies with EB and will also help to expand our training and development programmes for specialist EB nurses. Your Big Breakfast will make a big difference”.
Sharon Marshall, presenter of ITV’s This Morning, who is promoting the DEBRA Big Breakfast said: “I’m really looking forward to Big Breakfast month; it’s such a great idea, easy to do and lots of fun but we really need everyone’s help to make it a success. DEBRA provides support to thousands of people living with EB every day, but it’s donations from the public that make it possible for them to continue their vital work, including essential research into the condition and the provision of specialist care. Get involved and spread the word – look for a DEBRA Big Breakfast near you or set one up with mates.”
DEBRA offers lots of fundraising materials to make your Big Breakfast brilliant. You can order a How to Guide, leaflets, flyer, posters, balloons and stickers.
