Council cabinet asked to sanction building of skate facilities as soon as possible.
Swindon Council officers and skatepark company Wheelscape have come up with a plan to locate a 33 metre by 10 metre neighbourhood skate park opposite the Spectrum/Renault building, on Rivermead Drive.
StreetSmart team leader Martin Hambidge reported the results of a site study to the West Swindon Forum. “Work can proceed without planning permission as the site is council owned public open space,” he said. “The location has moved slightly to higher ground to reduce the risk of flooding.
"The facility will be built parallel to Rivermead Drive, next to a lit footpath. However we will have to remove some of the trees before the nesting season to improve visibility and lines of sight.”
The £65,000 project was due to be built by Easter 2013 at Saltway Fields in Middleleaze until objections forced the search for a different location.
Forum councillors agreed that Swindon Council’s cabinet should sanction the project so that work can start by the summer months.
