Packed programme for free festival in Lydiard Park
Over 1,000 young people are expected to enjoy 7 hours of free fun at Rock the Planet in the park on Saturday 12 July, thanks to energy company npower.
Entry, sports, creative arts and main stage performances are all provided free thanks to sponsorship by the West Swindon based company.
Highlights on the main stage will be urban dance performances by young people from across Swindon and North Wiltshire, a fashion show and performances from local bands including Jeff Like Usual, a four piece rock band from Swindon, and high energy girl band The Collective.
Aquila – one of Britain’s top trampolining clubs – will be providing trampoline displays during the afternoon and around the site will be a range of art based events, a massive 23 foot high inflatable megaslide, the chance to take part in Wiltshire’s largest water fight, and a volleyball competition for teams of any standard.
“Rock the Planet will be the biggest community event we’ve ever put on,” said organiser Hanna Koning, who is working closely with local organisations and churches to make sure the festival delivers the best experience possible for young people and families. “Local youngsters are working hard to learn dance routines and generate the right atmosphere for the festival.
“With four top quality local bands performing live on the main stage, and all the other events on offer, it promises to be a really exciting day.”
The event is being organised by ncounter, a regional charity with a Christian foundation, focused on education and performing arts. For details call Hanna Koning on 849425 or see the festival programme at:
