This event was the second Swindon Dragon Boat Race event organised by the Rotary Club of Swindon Phoenix, writes John Fisher.
In total there were 18 boats competing, each consisting of between 16 and 20 team members racing in heats all day to determine the final four fastest boats who would compete in the final.
The teams were from local businesses raising monies for various charities, and charity organisations raising monies for their own charities. We also had over 30 stalls offering various products and goods, including charity stalls.
There were rides for the children, two beer tents and two barbecues making the event a really fun day for all the family.
Thousands of people came into Coate Water to enjoy the fine weather and the occasion. The racing was very competitive with the team ‘Corsair Pirates’ from WJ White & Co winning the final in a very fast time of 57.98 seconds.
The Rotary Club of Swindon Phoenix would like to thank all its members, partners and volunteers who made the day run very smoothly. Also we would like to thank our sponsors Feltham Construction, Workmates Daniel Owen, Elliott’s and Swindon Advertiser for all their help with the event.
The Annual event will take place again next year on Sunday 28 June 2015 when it will be even bigger and better than this year’s event, so put it in your diary.
