Safe & Warm, a Swindon Borough Council led initiative that aims to make homes warmer and cheaper to heat and reduce the risk to people from falls and fires has now arrived in West Swindon. Residents of Toothill and Westlea are now being introduced to the scheme that has already helped over 10,000 households across Swindon.
“By taking the message about this scheme out to where people live, we are able to provide support to many more people than we would otherwise reach” says David Miles, Affordable Warmth Coordinator and Manager of the Safe & Warm scheme. “We have been able to insulate people’s homes, fix broken heating systems and improve personal finances through our free income maximisation service, all of which will help households to combat rising heating bills. We also provide advice and support to reduce the risk of falling in the home and work closely with Wiltshire Fire Service to deliver a fire safety service. Having a warm, safe home is something that every person should have and we, along with our Safe & Warm partners, are doing our best to make this possible for people in Swindon”.
Nearly 1,000 homes have benefited from either free or greatly discounted loft or cavity wall insulation so far, reducing heating bills by some £115 a year on average and making the home more comfortable. The income maximisation service has identified additional benefits for 1 in 4 households referred, worth an average £3,500 per household per year.
FREE Insulation for everyone
Through Safe & Warm we’re now able to offer FREE loft and cavity wall insulation to anyone in privately-owned or privately-rented homes right across the borough. This offer is time-limited as the schemes that fund insulation works are changing this autumn, after which it will be a lot more complicated to get help with insulation works. Now really is the time to take advantage of these great offers to improve your insulation and reduce your bills. Cavity wall and loft insulation are extremely cost-effective ways to reduce fuel bills by as much as £300 a year.
