Seventeen year old Jade Wilkinson from Haydon Wick has been voted one of Swindon’s best singers, having won the Text Factor competition hosted by Bushwackers and Total Star radio.
Proud Mum Barbara Wilkinson said, “the competition started in September with a showcase event, where every participant got to sing what they liked, followed by ten elimination rounds of themed songs.”
Jade is no stranger to competition, having got through to the regional final of Live and Unsigned in 2007, and last year coming third in Cadbury Fry’s Search for a Star contest.
“In the summer she supported Same Difference and Rachel Adadeji at the Bowl and in September she sang a duet with Jonny Wilkes at the Wyvern theatre. She’s also performed recently in the Applause show at the Arts Centre,” said Barbara.
Jade’s 2011 started with a performance at the Mayor’s Charity show at the Wyvern on 21 January and she will again be auditioning for the Wyvern Summer Youth Project.
“Jade’s always loved singing and she’s worked hard to get this far,” said Barbara. “She’s always looking out for competitions to enter to give herself more experience.”
Ultimately her dream is to be on the West End stage, and from September she will take up a place on a foundation course at a performing arts college in Cambridge.
“Whatever she ends up doing it will have singing involved, that’s what makes her happy,” said Barbara.
