After 17 weeks singing and performing, Swindon’s young hero Jahmene Douglas was the runner up in the X Factor.
After putting on the performance of his life against finalists James Arthur and Christopher Maloney on Saturday 9 December in front of 10,000 in Manchester and millions on TV, Jahmene and James were selected for the big public vote announced in the final of the final on Sunday.
Swindon put their heart, soul and votes behind their town’s famous son after the rapturous welcome on Wednesday 5 December when Jahmene, 22, visited the town to switch on the Christmas lights at Wharf Green and sing three songs in front of 28,000 people.
But it wasn’t quite enough as James was announced the winner.
Jahmene did a wonderful job throughout the competition and was gracious in coming second. He made all in Swindon proud. He will go far.
