John Lewis at home Swindon opened its doors for the first time on 2 September to give a behind-the-scenes tour and offer a first glimpse of the shop as it transforms at pace.
The £7 million investment is due to open this autumn and will focus on furniture, homeware, furnishing accessories, electricals and home technology. It will also have a cafe at the Mannington Retail Park site, with 39,000 square feet retail space spread over two floors including a mezzanine level. The existing building on the site was stripped back to its steel shell earlier this year, is now being rebuilt. The fit-out phase to install shelves, fixtures and fittings will begin next week.
Dominic Joyce, the John Lewis at home Swindon branch manager, said: “"From beds and bathroom accessories to home and kitchenware, living room furniture and lighting, we are confident that John Lewis at home will cater for everyone – whether they’re looking for the latest technology including TVs and iPads, or bespoke interiors ranges from some of the country’s leading designers, such as Orla Kiely, Sir Terence Conran and Clarissa Hulse.”
John Lewis at home is providing a boost to local employment by creating 180 new jobs. The retailer is committed to recruiting fresh talent from the local area whenever possible, and Partners will soon begin training in preparation for the shop opening.
Dominic added, “We have had a fantastic response to our recent recruitment campaign, with 1,200 applications received. My new management team starts its intensive two-month training programme next week which I am really looking forward to. The schedule includes hands-on training at John Lewis at home Poole and, also work placement in our full service store at Cribbs Causeway.
"I joined the John Lewis Partnership 16 years ago because people are the absolute focus of the business, both the partners who are the core of the business and our customers who are key to our success. The focus of our training programme as we come closer to opening day will be team building and leadership skills.”
“The new Partners and I can’t wait to welcome customers through the doors later in the Autumn.”
