Swindon based women’s mountain biking club Birds on Bikes is celebrating its first anniversary, have attracting over 120 members.
One is single mum of two Lisa Harvey of Ferndale who found a use for her bike in the shed, and discovered a new hobby, having read an article in the October 2012 Link, shortly after Sarah Selwood formed Birds on Bikes.
Explaining why the group appealed to her, Lisa said: “It’s good cycling with women because they give you lots of tips and are really encouraging. They even wait for me on the trails which is really good because I’m an absolute beginner.”
So far Lisa has been on two cycling trips with the group, one to Swinley Forest near Reading and the other to the Forest of Dean.
Group founder Sarah Selwood said: “Women have particular requirements and I wanted to create a place to share information and invitations to get out and enjoy mountain biking together.
“The group has become more and more successful and brought together women from all along the M4. If you want to join like minded women for a bit of excitement on two wheels, we’d love to hear from you.”
