The search is on for groups who need funding
The Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon has recently supported 35 local community groups with much needed funding under the banner of Grassroots Grants. For example
• A Grassroots Grant of £4,204 was awarded to AFC Melksham to revive the club, buy new kits, coaching for new volunteers and a fun day to attract new players
• Shine in the Community in Salisbury received £4,680, providing a ‘Money Talk’ project to people in Salisbury offering debt advice and budget management
• £5,000 was awarded to the Broadgreen Breakfast club in Swindon, which uses volunteers to provide breakfast every day for homeless and vulnerable people in the area
The purpose of Grassroots Grants is to support small informal voluntary and community groups and organisations, many of who are dependent on volunteers. Funding is coming to an end this year this is the last chance for groups to apply. ‘The Community Foundation will focus its support on projects which will reach the most disadvantaged people and will achieve a long term benefit for communities in these difficult times.’ said Heidi Yorke, Programme Director.
The Community Foundation particularly welcomes applications from groups that have not had a grant of any kind before. Grants of between £250 and £5,000 are available and the easiest way to access a Grassroots Grant is go to our website www.wscf.org.uk and follow the links to the “Expression of Interest Form”.
The closing dates for applications will be Friday 6th August 2010 for consideration by our grants panels in September.
