Thanks to the Labour government, twelve of Swindon’s old play areas have been renewed in the last two years. But soon after the coalition was formed in May, unspent money allocated to the council for Play Builder play areas was clawed back by the new government while the programme is reviewed.
Ten more play areas in the town have been identified for renewal and a decision will be made by the Department for Education at the end of August as to whether the Play Builder programme can restart.
