BRAD Smith says his Australia call-up has provided a big boost to his confidence.
The wing-back, at Swindon Town on loan from Liverpool for the season, picked up two caps for the Soccceroos during the recent international break, after receiving his national summons from head coach Ange Postecoglou out of the blue.
It’s been a useful surprise for Smith, however, who feels selection for the Aussies has helped his game on a domestic level.
He said: “It’s obviously tough coming into a team on my first loan but I knew Tyrell so he helped me fit in. Then playing week in, week out and going to Australia and getting two caps with them has helped my confidence massively.
“It was a big surprise but as soon as it came in I jumped on it.”
Smith provided two assists during Town’s 5-2 victory over Sheffield United this afternoon, as Swindon moved into fourth place in the League One table.
Promotion is now on the tips of many fans’ tongues but Smith isn’t getting carried away just yet.
“We’ve just got to not think about it, to be honest, and just go into each week and the games and get the best results we can. We’ve got a good chance,” he said.
