THREE young Swindon Wildcats players have been called up to the Great Britain Under 20s squad for December’s World Championships in Estonia.
Callum Buglass, Ollie Betteridge and Floyd Taylor will be involved in the Division 2A competition which runs from Sunday December 7 to the following Saturday, and sees GB take on the hosts, Korea, Lithuania, Netherlands and Romania.
Michael Stratford and Glenn Billing, who have iced for Cats this year and train with the Link Centre-based Okanagan Academy are also in the squad, while Luc Johnson, who has also played for Cats this season and is with the academy, is a stand-by replacement.
Speaking about his players’ selection, Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "This is great news for all three of the players.
"They’ve all been playing well this season and fully deserve to be in the GB squad.
"Each one of them is a talented guy and they have great futures ahead of them, so the experience they will gain being part of the set-up will be massive in terms of their development."
Former Wildcats bench coach Peter Russell, who is currently head coach of the GB U20s was in positive mood after revealing his chosen players saying: "Selecting a team is never easy but that’s the fun part. We can and will get the very best out of this group.
"They all want to be here and are proud to have the opportunity to play for GB.
"I like the feeling in the group and there work ethic.
"We have strong goaltending who will help our D-core and at time bail us out when required.
"Our offence has good speed, skill and decent size."
