RYAN Aldridge put Stevie Lyle’s uncharacteristic blunder at Bracknell down to the netminder trialling a new piece of equipment.
Lyle seemed to misjudge Scott Spearing’s tame lob forward, with the puck drifting by his outstretched arm as the netminder tried to get down to stop the Bees man’s speculative effort.
Lyle was using a new chest plate at The Hive, which Aldridge put the error down to, with the head coach unconcerned given how rare a mistake it was from the man universally regarded as the best keeper in the league.
“It’s a funny one, he was wearing a different piece of equipment tonight as well which he took straight off after the first period,” Aldridge said.
“He just misjudged and was struggling to go down deep enough but he more than redeemed himself and played well in both games.
“He knows it was a mistake and he said to me after ‘it’s good to get the bad ones out of the way early’ and I’m sure he has. Stevie’s still the best goalie in the league so there’s nothing to worry about there.”
