MARK Cooper doesn’t see Jake Reeves as a direct replacement for Louis Thompson but he is convinced Swindon Town’s new recruit will quickly make an impact at the County Ground.
Reeves was signed on a free transfer in the final week of the summer window following his release from Brentford and the ball-playing midfielder could become a key figure in the Town set-up when Louis Thompson moves on to Norwich City at the end of the campaign.
Cooper certainly believes Reeves has the ability to slot into the Swindon midfield but he regards him as a very different player to Thompson.
“He’s a good footballer. He technically fits into exactly the way we play. We’ve got no qualms about putting him into the team. He’s got to be patient and wait and he understands that,” the Town boss told Link Sport.
“He knows he’s competing with some really good players in the middle of the pitch but he’s pretty calm about that and he knows his time will come.
“I wouldn’t say he is as dynamic as Louis, he is more of a footballer who’s all action and Jake’s more of a technical footballer. That doesn’t mean to see he couldn’t play in the team instead of Louis.”
