AARON Nell knows Swindon Wildcats’ stuttering home form is starting to put pressure on them, but the British forward believes now is the perfect opportunity to put things right.
The Link Centre side are without a victory on home ice in the EPL this season, with their only success so far coming in the cup competition against NIHL sides Wightlink and Chelmsford.
While they have picked up some stunning wins on their travels, most notably at Telford, Manchester and Guildford, Nell knows their home form is simply not good enough and insisted they need to quickly put things right.
That chance comes this week with three home games on the spin, starting tonight against Sheffield followed by Sunday’s clash with Basingstoke and a visit from Milton Keynes on Wednesday.
“This weekend brings two massive games for us because our home form is starting to put pressure on us, it’s not good enough and we need to sort it out,” he told Link Sport.
“We have three home games coming up against some very tough teams, where we need to perform and start putting some good results together.
“Last year when we had our success, after Christmas we only lost one game in regulation and one in overtime at home in 15 or 16 games and we need to get back to that.
“If you win at home then anything you get on the road is a bonus, but right now our away form is saving us when normally it’s the other way round.”
Nell can’t put his finger on why things have been so tough at home this season, but knows the run must end soon.
“It’s a bit odd really,” he said. “We didn’t have many home games to start the season then we had the two cup games which we won when we were expected to,” he said.
“We were in a no win situation there really because if you win by one or 15 people expect it from you. We’ve played Guildford twice as well which is always tough but in the Peterborough game we were awful.
“That’s put a lot of pressure on ourselves home and away to put that right.”
