CONNOR Waldon may have to wait a while before going out on loan, following Jon Obika’s shoulder injury, but Swindon Town still plan on finding the young striker a temporary switch away from the County Ground.
Obika will find out today whether or not he needs surgery on the injury he suffered at Oakwell on Saturday and faces three months out, with Town looking at bringing in a temporary replacement.
Waldon’s name was circulated to League One and Two clubs last week and, while Cooper admitted Obika’s injury may delay things, the Town boss insisted the youngster is still available as long as the right club can be found.
“It might change it in the short term but not in the long term,” he said.
“We need to make sure he goes to the right club, it’s like when we take a player on loan, the club they are coming from needs to be reassured that their players are going to be looked after, get game time, and in the right environment.
“That’s what we want to do with Connor, we want to make sure he goes to the right environment and is looked after so that when he comes back it’s benefited him.
“Connor’s a Swindon boy and I’ve always liked him, I think he’s going to be a good player, but he needs to play.
“We need to make sure he is playing games if he goes out on loan.”
