RYAN Aldridge is set to let his Swindon Wildcats players decide who they want to be the club’s captain this season.
Aldridge has a host of experienced players at his disposal, including last season’s skipper Shane Moore, Aaron Nell, Stevie Lyle, Lee Richardson and new import Kenton Smith, but has so far held off from naming his captain.
That decision is set to be made by a vote amongst the players in the next two weeks, with Aldridge admitting he’s spoilt for choice.
“It’s going to go to a vote in probably a week or two and it will be decided between the guys,” Aldridge told Link Sport.
“I’ve got three guys who have been captain in the last three years (Moore, Richardson and Nell) and guys who have come in and are natural leaders, also some older guys who are leading from within the group which is great.
“We have such a different locker room to years past and it’s tough, so I’m going to put it into the boys’ hands, who they want to lead them into games.
“For me, if I was thinking about it, there are five or six guys.”
The Cats head coach also believes young D-man Stevie Whitfield has the potential to be a leader for the Link Centre side.
“Stevie Whitfield has to be in there because of the way he works off the ice and the way he works in the summer, he puts in every shift and he’s a senior player now,” he said.
“In the past he’s been a younger guy but he’s playing like a leader now.”
