SWINDON Town central defender Jack Stephens spoke to the local media this week and answered questions on a range of topics, including keeping clean sheets to his partnership with Jordan Turnbull.
STEPHENS ON…TOWN’S THIRD CLEAN SHEET OF THE SEASON AT CHESTERFIELD
“It’s nice and reassuring really because we’ve not only not been keeping clean sheets but we’ve conceded a lot of goals in the last couple of games,” he said.
“It’s our job to keep clean sheets and to stop goals from going in so we want as many as we can, and if we can keep clean sheets then it takes the pressure off the strikers and we saw what can happen the other night.
“We scored three and it would have only taken one goal to win the game which is pleasing for the whole team.”
STEPHENS ON…TOWN’S FLYING FULL-BACKS
"That’s the way we play, it’s exciting for everyone.
"Their job is to creat and score goals so to see them bombing forward is great thing to watch. The more chances we create the more goals we can score and that’s great.
"I can see why people get worried when they see six or seven forwards bombing on and just leaving a couple at the back, but I think we’ll win a lot of games by doing it."
STEPHENS ON…TOMORROW’S CLASH WITH MK DONS
“They’ve got a young squad like us so will have a lot of energy and will press us high on the pitch, so there’s a lot of opportunities for us to create chances. If we keep it tight at the back we should be in with a good chance.
“Teams have started to press us a bit higher, Chesterfield did and set a trap so it’s up to us to work it out.
“They’ve scored a lot of goals and are good going forward, but they’ve conceded a goal too.
STEPHENS ON…PLAYING ALONGSIDE HOUSEMATE JORDAN TURNBULL
“I love playing with Jordan, we know each other on and off the pitch and have a good relationship.
“We don’t really need to talk too much on the field because we know each other’s game’s so well, but Nathan needs a lot of credit too, playing in the middle of us.
“He’s really helped me and Jordan because the two of us don’t have an awful lot of experience, so to have a player like Nathan who’s played an awful lot of games for Swindon Town is really good for us.”
