MARK Cooper is already keen on extending Jake Reeves’ short-term stay as long as he continues his good start to life at Swindon Town.
Reeves joined on a free after being released by Brentford and, after making an impact as a substitute, has further impressed since earning starting berth in Cooper’s side.
While it is still too early to begin working on a new deal, Cooper insisted he will have to look at an extended contract for Reeves as long as his good form carries on.
“If he keeps playing like he is then I’m sure we will be looking to do something,” he said.
“He’s done really well since he’s come to the club, he’s attitude’s been very, very good and he’s had to be patient. I always say to the boys on the bench ‘make sure you’re ready when you come on’ and every time he’s come on he’s effected the game.
“That’s where recruitment’s key, you have to make sure that eight or nine times out of 10 you bring the best ones in. At the moment the recruitment’s going well which is pleasing.”
Cooper was impressed with Amari’i Bell’s debut at Barnsley on Saturday, following his loan move from Birmingham, but insisted there is still plenty of time to form an opinion on the loanee.
“Amari’i is with us until January so that’s a decent amount of time, three months for us to have a good look at him,” Cooper said.
“He’ll get some games under his belt and it will do him good. He can play centre-back, left back and left wing back.
“He’s come into a team which is playing well and they have to get used to him, he has to get used to them, but he gave us an added security defensively on the left hand side.
“He’s got that natural defensive side about him so it brought some more security to us.”
