Leave a gift in your will to Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and it will live on in fabulous flowers and incredible creatures
Throughout November the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is working with selected solicitors and will makers offering special rates on will writing.
Kingfishers and other wetland birds stretch their wings and scoot over the waters of the south Wiltshire nature reserve of Langford Lakes, ten years after generous legacies helped Wiltshire Wildlife Trust purchase this former trout fishery and turn it into a fine bird-watching site and a unique centre for learning
Legacies played a part in securing a future for both Langford Lakes and Lower Moor Farm nature reserve in the north, says Matthew Powell, the Trust’s Fundraising Officer, “a future in which precious wildlife is protected and generations of people are able to enjoy the peace and beauty of these special landscapes.”
“From skylarks to orchids to chalkstreams and woodlands, gifts in Wills can help us protect some of Wiltshire’s most treasured species and habitats. During November we are encouraging wildlife-lovers to make a Will and, after looking after their loved ones, consider a gift that will help protect nature for future generations,” he says.
Someone who remembers the Trust in their Will could mean the difference between saving a wildlife haven and losing it forever, or help to create a new nature reserve for wild creatures to colonise and for people to enjoy, help with work to protect a specific species, such as erecting nest boxes for dormice, or support our work to educate and empower local communities to take action for wildlife.
“Gifts in Wills of any size can help with this work. The value of one that we received for Lower Moor Farm increased ten times because it helped us secure lottery funding on the back of it,” he says.
We believe that Wiltshire’s wildlife is a gift that we should treasure and for this reason, our many conservation activities include:
• Managing 40 wildlife reserves for the benefit of present and future generations
• Creating living landscapes across Wiltshire
• Protecting Wiltshire’s most endangered habitats and species
• Campaigning for greater protection of Wiltshire’s wildlife
• Working closely with farmers and landowners to promote sustainability
• Inspiring children and adults to get involved in the natural world
Matt says: “If you own your own house or have a partner or children, making a Will is really important to make sure they are looked after. It’s just one of those things we don’t get around to. This is a perfect opportunity to write a Will, save money and consider our natural world.
