In the five years since it was first launched it has become Prospect Hospice’s biggest fundraising event, and in 2012 the charity’s ladies’ night walk is asking local women to step back in time for this year’s Starlight Walk, sponsored by Nationwide Building Society, on Saturday 30 June.
Taking place during a summer in which the world’s focus is on the Queen’s diamond jubilee and London’s Olympic Games, Prospect has given the 2012 Starlight Walk a ‘best of British’ theme, with the charity’s fundraising stepping back to the fifties to launch what they hope will be the most successful Starlight Walk yet.
“We’re making Starlight 2012 a real celebration of all that’s great about Great Britain,” says head of fundraising Sheryl Crouch. “Whether that’s post-war glamour, the swinging sixties, landgirls or even harking back to Queen Victoria or Bodicea, it’s all about bringing the best of British to the streets of Swindon.”
And, if some ladies are a little less enthusiastic about dressing up than others, this year’s distinctive Starlight Walk T-shirt is going to be red, white and blue. “Starlight is always meant to be fun,” says Sheryl. “It raises vital funds for the Hospice, which we never lose sight of, but we’ve always tried to create a party atmosphere on the evening too, and fancy-dress and parties have always gone hand-in-hand. In 2012, which is going to be such a memorable year for Britain, it just made sense to create a very British feel to our biggest night of the fundraising year.”
Natasha May, Nationwide’s Corporate Responsibility Manager said: “The Starlight Walk is a great event in the Swindon community and we are delighted to support it for a fourth year. The walk raises vital funds for Prospect Hospice, a charity which is close to the hearts of many Nationwide employees. Our Swindon Community Champions, a committee of employees at our head office, made the decision to sponsor the Starlight Walk, unanimously voting to support Prospect.”
