Following a year of refurbishment including a new roof, repainting of the external structure, retiling the swimming pool and a brand new ice plant for the skating rink, Link Centre holds a open day on Saturday 31 August, 9am to 5pm.
Following a ‘soft’ opening of the new look ice rink as the Swindon Ice Arena on 19 August, the town’s premier leisure facility is opening its doors to everyone for a fun packed day of free activities.
In the rink there will public ice skating, a taste of skating tuition and ice hockey training sessions, as well as the chance to try sledge hockey.
In the main sports hall, there will be badminton and table tennis, and Swindon Town Football in the Community will offer demonstrations and coaching throughout the day.
On the climbing wall, there’s a chance to get a head for heights with the experts.
In the pool, there will be Stage One swimming lessons for over 5s, and an introduction to becoming a Rookie Lifeguard for 7+ years (must be able to swim 100m in deep water confidently).
In the community halls, bounce away on an inflatable, or take part in Mini Movers dance classes for preschool children, whilst seniors will be able to enjoy master classes at a tea dance.
Fitness instructors will be offering try-out sessions for the many classes that take place at the centre: Zumba, Body Jam, Body Combat, RPM studio cycling, or stretch and relax with Body Balance. There is even a ZumbAtomic session for children 4+ years (parents can also take part).
The library is open as normal from 9.30am to 4pm with a special story time from 10.30am to 11am.
If you’re new to Link Centre or haven’t been there for some time, staff will be on hand to give tours and advice on how to get active.
