Personal trainer Les Slinn is hoping to be one of the lucky runners who will carry the London Olympic 2012 torch for a one mile stage in its relay around the country.
Nominations were invited for people who have made significant contributions to their communities and The Link and others put forward Les for his continuous support for Swindon Down’s Group and Swindon Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis.
Les said, “I’m told the torch relay organisers looked at the total number of nominations then selected one to find out about the nominee. Apparently they pulled out The Link’s submission which took my name to the next round. So thanks to The Link and also all the other people who put forward my name. I hope I will be able to carry the torch for Swindon and my chosen charities.”
The shortlisted runners will be told in December if they have been selected.
Running clubs contribute to calendar for MS centre
Thirty members of the Slinn Allstars running group plan to run the Rome marathon in March 2012.
To give their project a positive purpose they are going to raise £6,000 to buy a Vibrogym power plate for the Swindon Therapy Centre for MS in Westlea.
The club is organising a range of events including a big car boot sale, a curry night, raffles, competitions and a calendar featuring pictures from local running clubs and details of sporting events in 2012.
It will be on sale at £7.99 from the end of September and available from Run Swindon, Big Adventure Store, running clubs, the MS Society and also: www.slinnallstars.co.uk
