The mystery of the Swindon unclaimed prize has now been solved, after a local ground worker did some digging around and discovered his winning Lotto ticket in his wallet – three months after the draw took place on Wednesday 31 October 2007.
Terry Norman-Thorpe (25) could not believe his eyes when he checked his ticket and realised he had matched five numbers plus the bonus ball to win £102,490. Terry and his girlfriend, Leanne, are now compiling their wish list with a luxury holiday to Egypt and a new sports car for Terry near the top. Thinking about their future, the couple also plan to invest some of their winnings in property.
Terry explained: "Leanne had the computer on to check the EuroMillions results for the £95 million draw, so I thought I may as well check the tickets I had in my wallet. There were about 12 tickets that I had collected over the months and not checked. When it flashed up that I had entered a winning five plus bonus line I couldn't believe it. I actually turned the computer off and then on again just to make sure what I was reading was real!"
He continued: "Leanne was upstairs doing the ironing so I shouted up and told her that I had won the lottery. She told me to leave her alone as she was busy as she thought I was messing around! Then when she eventually came down she thought I had fixed the numbers on the computer to match the ticket. It took her quite a while to realise we had actually won."
Loyal lottery player Terry has been playing Lotto since it began over 13 years ago and always buys Lucky Dip® tickets on a Saturday. The winning ticket was bought at Tesco Express at Abbey Meads. The winning Lotto numbers on Wednesday 31 October 2007 were 9, 12, 20, 25, 33 and 35 – and the bonus ball was 17.
Every Lotto play slip now comes with its own Dream Number – it is up to players to mark 'yes' to give their Dream Number its chance of winning up to £500,000, or choose a Lucky Dip.
