Local woman Collette O’Malley from Swindon is taking on the challenge of a lifetime! On 12 October she will join a group of 20 to 30 other people who will trek along the Great Wall which involves trekking for up to eight hours a day for six days through remote parts of China and local communities. Collette O’Malley will be taking part in this trek to raise money for Breast Cancer Care to support people affected by breast cancer.
Collette O’Malley is undertaking an eight month rigorous training plan which will involve gym training and long walks culminating in 16 hours in the final weeks. The Trek is a tough challenge that pushes participants to their limits and for Collette O’Malley nutrition, stretching and pounding those pavements will become an important part of life for the next few months.
Collette O’Malley is organising a Race Night with Parme Entertainments at the De Vere Village Hotel Swindon on Thursday 10 May to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care. Tickets cost £27 per person which includes entry, 3 course meal and a race card. If booking a table of 12 you’ll receive one ticket free. For tickets contact Collette O’Malley on 07717798758 or email@example.com or through the event on Facebook.
Collette O’Malley comments: “Taking part in the China Trek is a great challenge for me. I have strict training targets to make sure I am fit enough for the trip and to ensure I don’t let down those who have sponsored me. The cause is close to my heart as I’ve lost family to cancer, have family fighting cancer and personally have the BRCA2 cancer gene which means I’m more likely to develop the disease.”
Collette O’Malley has pledged that she will raise at least £3,200 and still has £2,700 to find. She is calling on local businesses and individuals to support her.
Claire Pulford, Head of Events at Breast Cancer Care says: “I am delighted with Collette O’Malley’s hard work on behalf of Breast Cancer Care. The money raised will make such a difference to the work we do offering support and information to those affected by breast cancer.”
