Swindon’s ultra athlete Mike Buss’s dream of running 100 marathons in 100 consecutive days to raise money for Help For Heroes could come to a grinding halt if he can’t raise more money to sustain the challenge.
His aim is to raise a total of £100,000 for the charity and has spent £3,000 of his own money to reach the sixty ninth marathon and has so far raised £27,000 in sponsorship.
Mike said, "I quit my job to do the challenge, but it’s cost me more money than I thought it would to fund as I didn’t take into account some of the outgoings along the way. I would be gutted if it did fail.”
He is asking Swindon businesses to help him with donations of between £500 and £1,000 to cover hotel accommodation for him, as well as food and fuel.
Pickfords are sponsoring Mike by transporting a Star Trac treadmill to each marathon site In the next few weeks he will be running at:
25 – 31 August: Cheltenham, Regent Arcade Shopping Centre,
1 – 5 September: Swindon, McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village,
6 – 11 September: Southampton, Esporta Health Club,
12 – 19 September: Aldershot – to be confirmed,
20 – 23 September: Birmingham NEC – Leisure Industry Show.
He said: “I just can’t afford to finance the costs much longer but I’ve shown that for every £1,000 in sponsorship is convereted into £3,000 to £4,000 in donations for Help For Heroes. It needs money to make money.”
