MARK Cooper hopes those occasional County Ground visitors who attended Swindon Town’s 1-0 victory over Bristol City this afternoon will have been encouraged to keep coming back.
Around 9,500 Town fans were present in the crowd of 12,500-plus in SN1 today, as a goal from Michael Smith saw off previously unbeaten City, who had been reduced to 10 men in the second minute of the game following the dismissal of their captain Wade Elliott.
Cooper was struck by the atmosphere created by both sets of supporters, stating that he didn’t want the game to end, and afterwards stressed how important the extra fans were to his side.
“I thought the Bristol City fans were great and it was a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish – that’s what you want to be playing and managing in every week,” he said.
“Hopefully some of the fans who haven’t been coming and came today really enjoyed the experience and will come back and give us more support.
“Keep coming because we need you. We’ve got a unique, young group of players who can go a long way. The more we get, the more they get supporter, the better they’ll be.”
