AARON Nell heaped praise on netminder Stevie Lyle after the Welshman was in inspired form during Cats’ 4-2 win at Guildford tonight.
On a night where he was heavily goaded by the home support, Lyle stood strong and produced save after save to help the visitors avenge their defeat to the Flames at the Link Centre 24 hours previously.
Nell insisted the experienced stopper, who is weighing up whether or not this is his last season of hockey, provided the base which Cats used to launch such an impressive road win.
“It’s a great win and Stevie Lyle was superb, he kept us in it, that’s why Ryan wants him to carry on so badly because he’s the best in the league,” Nell told Link Sport.
“He won us the game tonight and we finished our chances too like we probably didn’t last night, so to win against this Guildford team is amazing. They are the best team I’ve played in the EPL and they were very, very good so it’s awesome for us to win.
“We stuck to our system, we were patient and we took our chances, we all played great and it’s well deserved.
“We’ve never beaten Manchester on the road and we’ve beaten Guildford maybe twice out of 20 times, so this is a very good start we have to push on from now.
“It’s important we keep on going and make the best of everything now because we’ve given ourselves a good start.”
