RYAN Aldridge admitted his Wildcats team were far from their best this weekend as they lost twice to Bracknell Bees, but still feels able to take plenty of positives from their pre-season campaign.
After hammering MK Lightning 6-1 on Wednesday night, Cats lost both games with the Bees 3-2 but showed plenty of fight and more than matched their opponents but for two stunning displays between the pipes from Alex Mettam.
Despite the losing record in pre-season, Aldridge is impressed with the way his side are shaping up, praising new boys Tomasz Malasinski and Callum Buglass, but admitted his players need to up their work rate if they are to challenge this season.
“I don’t think we’ve played our best the last two nights and their goalies have been superb, but the scorelines don’t justify the kind of shots we had both nights,” Aldridge told Link Sport.
“We’ve still got things to work on because we look tired and flat in certain areas but we know the things we need to improve on and we’ll be doing that.
“The results aren’t that important, although we would win them all in a perfect world, but we have to take the positives and not get down too quickly.
“Our powerplay was a nice goal for us, Tomasz (Malasinski) made a great pass and I’ve been impressed with him so fair, and Callum Buglass has been really good too.
“There are plenty of positives, the quality of shots we’re getting is really good, especially in the third period tonight, but we need to be a hard working team in all the right areas and we didn’t work hard enough this weekend.”
Cats begin their regular season with a home cup clash against Chelmsford on Saturday before travelling to face Manchester the following day in their first league game.
