RYAN Aldridge hailed the commitment of his Swindon Wildcats’ defence as they claimed a dramatic shoot-out victory at Manchester Phoenix tonight.
Cats came from 2-0 and 3-2 down to take the game to overtime and penalty shots at the Altrincham Ice Dome, as Aaron Nell, Tomasz Malasinski and Ollie Betteridge all found the back of the net, but head coach Aldridge reserved special praise for his D-men.
He told Link Sport: “It is a huge result. I said before that we just wanted to come up here and work hard and put a performance in. We put a performance in and got a result through all our hard work. Our offence has shown what they’re capable of tonight but I think the biggest thing was the team defence and the way guys battled from start to finish.
“I’ve been moaning and shouting and screaming at them for losing their one on one battles and I don’t think many one on one battles were lost tonight.
“It’s massive. We asked for a character performance tonight and we asked for 60 minutes, and I thought that’s what we got.
“I thought the boys played phenomenally from start to finish and they fully deserved a win. To come back from a couple of goals down and through overtime and a shoot-out and keep their cool was phenomenal.”
