ALUN Rossiter believes the Robins are as good as secure in the Elite League play-offs following tonight’s 60-31 hammering of Coventry.
Six of Swindon’s seven riders were paid for double figures in the comprehensive win, which moves the Robins four ahead of the Bees and eight ahead of Eastbourne after the Eagles lost at Wolves tonight.
With the Eagles having not won on the road for over two years and Cam Woodward and Lewis Blackbird out injured, it will take an almighty turnaround for the Arlington club to catch Swindon, which Rossiter can’t see happening.
“I think we’re in now, Eastbourne lost tonight and I think we’re in,” he said.
“I’ve always said we would make the play-offs and I think we are in now.
“I didn’t see this coming and I’m in a bit of shock, we are the form team but that was outstanding.
“Nick’s was outstanding, all the top five did great and Stevie Worrall was outstanding too.
“It’s a great win for us and it gives us a load of confidence.
“There was not one last place from any rider in the top six and that’s superb.”
Despite the size of the victory, Rossiter is determined not to get too carried away, given greater, more pressurised tests lie ahead.
“I’m not getting too carried away because we always start like a train and fade for the play-offs, but it seems to be happening the other way round again now which is great stuff,” he said.
“When the play-offs start it’s a whole new ball game for us and all the teams in there so this won’t mean too much if we meet again.
“We need to stay sensible and keep working hard, then we’ll be fine.”
