Swindon Robins have received special recognition from the Mayor of Swindon following their historic league title-winning season.
The town’s speedway team secured their first league title for 45 years when they defeated Poole Pirates in the Elite League Grand Final last month.
The Mayor of Swindon Cllr Mick Bray welcomed team manager Alun Rossiter and several riders into his parlour at the Civic Offices on 27 November where he presented them with an engraved cut glass award.
He said: “Swindon Borough Council is extremely proud of the Swindon Robins’ magnificent achievement, which is why my fellow councillors and I were keen to celebrate their success.
“Alun Rossiter has told me he is delighted with the plans as it will allow the team to receive official recognition from the borough before having the chance to celebrate with their fans when the town switches on its Christmas lights on 5 December.”
The Christmas lights switch-on starts at 5pm and will feature a range of acts and entertainment including Swindon Dance, Ovation and The Big Sting. Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio is also expected to be among the line-up along with local Olympians, Paralympians and torchbearers.
