Isn’t this little one adorable?
He – or she – is one of four Meerkat pups born at Studley Grange Butterfly World near Wroughton. They are only 3-4 weeks old and mum has just let them come out of their burrow for the first time.
Meerkats are wild animals so we cannot handle them because human contact makes them very stressed. That’s why it is currently unknown if the pups are males or females.
The adults in the meerkat group have been doing a great job looking after the youngsters since they were born but they are getting a bit more adventurous on their own now.
Studley Grange Butterfly World is just off junction 16 of the M4. As well as butterflies and caterpillars, reptiles and birds in the tropical houses; visitors can see otters and meerkats; geese and ducks, turkeys, pheasants, and other favourites in the outdoor animal paddock.
